Broadband communications service provider, VDT
communications, says that encouraging more girls to take up
careers in the Information and Communications Technology,
ICT field would benefit the Nigerian economy immensely.
The company said this realisation was behind its continued
sponsorship of the annual International Girls in ICT day
celebration organised by the E-Business Life magazine in
Lagos.
General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Mrs. Abimbola
Ikumariegbe said she has spoken to many young girls and
encouraged them to choose a career in ICT, drawing from her
experiences as an ICT professional.
Ikumariegbe said the event is interesting because it
encourages young girls from different secondary schools to
develop interest in ICT in an attempt to strike a balance with
the male professionals who dominate the sector.
According to her, “It opens up a world of opportunities to
young girls through the information that will be provided by
various female ICT professional speakers whom they can
easily identify with as role models and expand their career
choices.
“VDT also helps the young girls to understand various
services that a broadband company can offer by showcasing
various services at the event”she added.
VDT services include Digital Lease Circuit, Corporate Internet,
Metro Wireless, Metro Fiber, ATM Solutions, Wi-FiHotspot
and 4G LTE Advanced Retail Internet service.
