Nigeria’s U-20, Flying Eagles beat Mauritania
5-0 in their African Cup of Nations (AFCON)
second leg qualifier played on Saturday, July
21. The Flying Eagles played out a 1-1 draw
away at Mauritania and needed a goalless draw
or a win by any margin to progress to the 2019
U-20 AFCON.
The game took place after the rain stopped at
the Agege Stadium with IK Start midfielder Afeez
Aremu in the starting line up for the Flying
Eagles.
Wasiu Alalade gave the Flying Eagles an early
lead when his blasted in a shot in the 11th
minute.
The lead was doubled just before the start of the
second half when Rabiu Mohammed played the
ball through for Nazifi Yahaya to convert.
The Flying Eagles created more chances to score
but were unable to add to their two goal
advantage as they went into the break.
Just after the start of the second half, Nazifi
Yahaya made it a three goal advantage for the
Flying Eagles with his second of the game.
Aniekeme Asuquo put the game past Mauritania
with the fourth goal of the game for he Flying
Eagles.
Ali Isah was brought down in the penalty area
an Aremu stepped up to convert the resulting
penalty. The result means that Flying Eagles are
through on a 6-1 aggregate scoreline to the
2019 U-20 AFCON after missing out of the last
edition.
